A Momentary Lapse… December 2, 2004 · You might recall that last time I mentioned the Foreign Minister from Iran, Kamal Kharazi. He had been on CNN, doing an interview where the anchor said Kharazi had announced the Iran was suspending all uranium enrichment programs. I called that an amazingly stupid announcement, since if you put all the reports together… about Iran, their nuclear program, and their responses to American claims… essentially Kharazi was saying that Iran was suspending a program that didn’t exist. Great. Well, here’s a follow-up article that is equally stupefying and defiant of all reason. See, now Iran is saying that the agreement, under which they said they would suspend their programs, isn’t being honored. Evidently, the Iranian facilities that are being used to enrich the uranium need to be excluded from the agreement that they will stop enriching uranium. One more time… pay attention and read it again if you need to… (1) Iran has agreed to suspend a program that doesn’t exist. (2) But in their final agreement with other nations they want the facilities, that they claim aren’t doing what they said the facilities will stop doing, to be excluded from the locations that will be held accountable for not doing it. · What? Alexander bombed in its opening weekend? Who could have predicted that? Well… me for one, and I did it so many times I don’t know what to link you to. But, before I go on and on about it, I’ll just leave you with this thought... Of the top five box office returns, only Christmas with the Kranks opened this weekend. Every other movie in the top five… all significantly ahead of Alexander… opened in previous weekends (National Treasure, The Incredibles, The Polar Express and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie). · Glad to see The Polar Express at least holding steady… once again, do yourself a favor and go see it. · Monty Python’s Spamalot is getting ready to go. Visit the web site, and be prepared for tickets to go on sale next week for the New York dates. And some NaNo leftovers… Back in October, I posted a column called “All about NaNo.” I was preparing for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), and I had been visiting some of the web sites run by participants. Well, I kept visiting their sites after that first column, and had a few more thoughts I intended to share. Just never had enough to fill a full second column. So, to put a bow on my NaNo 2004 efforts, here are those other thoughts I had while clicking around the NaNoWriMo web site in October and November this year… · There are lists all over the web. Top ten this, top one hundred that. Movies, albums, actors, foods, likes, dislikes, and on and on into just about anything. Happened to visit someone’s blog and there was a list of 10 good patron saints. Now, for me, that list isn’t as important as something it suggests… Are their ten bad patron saints? Help me out here, I don’t know. · Hmm… Why do most of the published authors participating in NaNo seem to be romance novelists? Seriously… huge majority of what I am finding. · One day, while searching around just before one of the World Series games, they had 41918 people signed up. If I’m not mistaken, the last time the Red Sox won the World Series the date was September 4, 1918. The signs were all over the place if you looked for them. · Ok, couldn’t stop myself. I looked it up. Apparently there is a patron saint against bad weather… never heard of Medard before, so I could be wrong on this. But, there doesn’t appear to be a really bad patron saint. |
